Hiking in Magnetic Island

Over half of the island is National Park with rugged mountain scenery and a variety of forest types. The pace of life is slower here, which is the way local people like. It's very casual, so leave your formal clothes behind. The island is in a rain-shadow so rain seldom falls. Given that they claim to receive about 320 days of sunshine each year, our itinerary incorporates plenty of time for swimming in the picturesque rocky coves.

The island is renowned for its exotic bird life and you'll see koalas and rock wallabies too. The walking varies from sandy beaches to tracks that are steep in places, leading to outstanding lookouts. Take your time and enjoy this beautiful island.

There is excellent swimming available during most of the time that this tour is offered. We don’t offer this tour during the Wet Season (Dec to Feb), when nature takes control with very unpleasant weather conditions.

Location

Magnetic Island is off the coast at Townsville in far north Queensland, 300km south of Cairns. It is easily accessibly by air or coach.
